When I take this photograph of a paper towel, I am thinking how this is not a “good” photograph and how one might talk about the large amount of negative space in the center and lower left part of the image. I also think of how the image is only … Continue reading

Time to decide and I’m not ready
Writer's JournalI feel like I am being shot out of a cannon. The second and final year of my college photography degree has begun, and I feel overwhelmed by the business class (Photo 200). The first year of the program focused on learning technical skills for photography, and although I knew that the second year would weigh heavily on business and learning how to be a professional photographer, I did not expect to so immediately determine what my career in photography should be.
Edging Forward in Photo 111
Writer's JournalGoing into this shoot I had a solid idea of what I wanted for my composition. I had made sketches of my ideas and chose to merge two of them into a final image. Unlike with the group projects, I did think about the idea of having elements that extend outside of the frame to suggest that there is more to the scene. I thought of this when drawing the ideas for this assignment. (I consider this an improvement to my planning over what I have done previously.)
Thanks a lot
Writer's JournalI am happy to say that I finished shooting for a photo competition I am entering. The clock is ticking and the deadline nearing, but I should be able to make my print for Ilford’s Lyrically Speaking student competition tomorrow. Then I will send my print off and wait to see what happens.
Despite my happiness, I do have one issue that is bugging me. I was going to work with someone who was going to model for me, and although she agreed to do it, she never followed up with me on locking in Monday after class as our shoot. Nor did she make any attempt to just show up knowing I wanted that time for shooting. (The thing to note is that she was the one who suggested working after class on either Monday or Tuesday.)

Little, frail seeds in oil black soil
Whose hopes are to grow firm and rich
In fruit and vine
My first time drawing in years
ScratchpadI had been meaning to draw for, well, years. Today I finally broke out the drawing supplies and paper that I bought sometime in 2014, I think. When I set out to draw, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to draw, but I knew it had to be something more than a simple exercise. (A boring drawing of a shaded sphere comes to mind.) I decided that I didn’t want to do anything that had an analog in the real world; thus I chose to draw something abstract.
